Iraq Iraqi

An American veteran of the Iraq war was charged on Monday with murder and rape for allegedly breaking into an Iraqi?

household with three comrades, raping a woman and killing her and three family members. Ministry of Justice said Steven Green, 21, who had served with the U.S. Army one hundred and first Airborne Division, facing the death penalty, if convicted of the murders. http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?NewsID=1039377 Should not this person's trial to take place in Iraq, the Iraqi people and be subject to Iraqi justice? The department said Green was subject to civil prosecution

He had been arrested by a local police force so they could do whatever they wanted with him. However, Washington would have made a huge stink, him being in the military and a us citizen and all. yeah, it's all pretty sick.

Troop Surge in Iraq is deepening quagmire

It appears President Bush will announce a "temporary increase" in the number of U.S. troops stationed in Iraq. President adds complexity to a series of wrong decisions he has made since the beginning of the invasion. It's hard to imagine how an increase in U.S. troops could create a self-created problem?

We have made the same mistake that the five-star General Douglas MacArthur warned in Asia, "Never becomes involved in a land war in Asia. "Presidents Kennedy and Johnson did not pay attention to counseling, and the rest is history. Now again we have a President who has involved us voluntarily (U.S. were never attacked directly or indirectly by the evil Saddam Hussein) in a land war in an Arab country where suicide bombers are just as common as a cup of coffee.

The basis for General MacArthur's advice was that life is cheap in Asia. Our country will tire, and public willingness to continue efforts will slow before the opposition will tire of losing their lives. The same advice applies to the Middle East as it did to Asia. Saddam Hussein's Iraq, and Mullah's Iran lost several hundred thousand men in the Iran-Iraq war in 1980's, and neither felt the loss. United States openly supported Saddam Hussein during the war, and prevented an Iranian victory by stepping with arms and intelligence information.

Our President, on the other hand, continues to be very bad advice from those people who initiated this effort. Let us look at history to understand what is happening. Saddam Hussein was a tyrant, like all the other tyrants in the region. Goggle "Hama massacre" and you To see how the Syrian leadership killed tens of thousands of their own people in 1982. When the Mullahs took over Iran and the deposed Shah, perhaps several hundred thousand people died as a result.

History of the whole region is one of violence, instability, anarchy and insecurity. In this simple phrase, you will understand why our President's wish to install a democracy in Iraq can not work. Each country in the Middle East have an unstable regime ruling a society whose members have a low tolerance for each other and are inherently volatile. Even if our President had managed to impose our democracy on the Iraqi people, the whole system would necessarily fall apart within months to a year or two, as a new equilibrium would be formed among the warring parties.

It is not George Bush's fault. He has simply allowed itself to be misunderstood account of reality in the daily situation in Iraq. His advisers have failed him miserably, and he has failed in America not to change his advisers quickly enough to understand what he employs with.

The primary goal for all American presidents, and not Congress to determine for our country, what our interests should be. The President then must create policies that promote our interests. It's not a coincidence that the first invasion of Iraq in 1990 took place shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union. Our Middle East policy until that time was to prevent Soviet penetration and domination of OIL RICH Middle East.

With the fall of the Soviet Union, our policy was to avoid a country in the region to create hegemony over the region (and this is because OIL). It was Saddam's SIN. He tried to control the oil riches of the region by invading Kuwait, and therefore neutralizing Saudi Arabia. This had to be prevented at any cost. In 1990, cost a US-led coalition to remove Saddam as a threat to oil stability region, and that is why the first President Bush never marched to Baghdad. Saddam's removal from Kuwait was sufficient to ensure that hegemony would not be created.

Somehow the current President Bush got it into his mind Saddam still posed a threat to stability in the region and therefore invaded again. Thus, he has opened Pandora's box. When this box was opened, no one can predict with any accuracy how this will play out. We have certainly done a number of things, none of which plays to our advantage:

1) We have strengthened and emboldened Iran. We are no longer able to threaten Iran with invasion to continue its nuclear program. We do not have the force structure to support our threats.
2) We have strengthened Syria like Iran.
3) We have aggravated the Arab-Israeli situation by weakening our own image as an honest party in the conflict.
Four), we have destabilized Iraq as a country and a functioning state, no endgame in mind.
5) We have put our prestige on the line, and is the lowest level of respect in the eyes of our allies since World War II.
6) Our position as a moral guiding force of this planet is in danger.
7) We have started a war, we do not know how to finish.

What the President should do right now is to recognize where we are at. That is why he lost the Congress in the last election. Americans are never sit stay, or watch passively. We are an active nation. If the President is not moving fast enough, people will choose others who will?

Our current troops should only used to train Iraqi forces, both police and military, and not act as combatants in a country whose government we are already defeated. If the president deems it mandatory to deploy additional troops, again these additional forces should only be used to train Iraqi forces not to intervene. It is not civil war, Muslim against Muslim, and sect against sect. It is not about Catholic versus Protestant, or Jew vs. Arab. It is all done under the same religion. It is even taking place within the same sects. Sunnis are also killing Sunnis and Shia killing Shia. We could never hope to deal with these ruthless killings.

We are, after everything a democracy, the beacon of light in the world where there are very dark. Our continuing efforts in Iraq could weaken this country so much that it can result in potentially nuclear-armed Iran create regional hegemony, we tried to prevent Iraq from creating. Would not it be a sad situation? We replace one monster with another.

Goodbye and Good Luck
